We then use special, low profile extraction equipment coupled with direct-drive truckmounts to further remove moisture from your home or basement. Removing flood water rapidly helps reduce the possibility of secondary water damage.
Secondary Food Damage
Removing flood water from your home as soon as possible is crucial to reduce secondary flood damage. Secondary flood damage occurs when water is allowed to sit inside of a home for extended periods of time. This creates a humid environment that causes many problems to occur including mold growth, structural and cosmetic damage.
When flood water sits in a closed environment, organic material such as wood, drywall and fiberboard absorb the moist air. The moist material allows for microbial growth such as mold and mildew to begin to grow. It also can change the shape wood or fiberboard causing loss of structural integrity and damage to cabinets, trim, floors, windows and doors. Removing flood water fast is crucial to combating secondary flood damage.
Flood Removal Process
UrgentDry uses powerful pumps to remove flood water from your home. After removing the flood water, UrgentDry then removes additional water from carpeting and other buildings materials. This helps to reduce moisture from within the home as well as clear the area for more efficient drying. Once the area is prepped for equipment, it is isolated to reduce humidity in other areas of the home. Installing moisture barriers allows us to control the atmosphere within the flood damaged area. Once complete the area is ready for our special drying equipment.
Immediately following the flood removal prep, UrgentDry sets up dehumidifiers and air movers to quicken the drying process. We use special equipment such as thermo hygrometers and surface moisture meters to continually track the wet material to ensure it is drying efficiently. We place air movers in strategics areas for maximum evaporation. Certain situations may required specialized equipment such as wet hardwood floors, cements walls or inaccessible wall and ceiling cavities.
Special Flood Removal Drying Equipment
UrgentDry utilizes wall cavity drying equipment for a more surgical service. When possible, we remove the baseboards and plug air nozzles into your drywall to reduce drywall replacement and painting. This process allows air to pass through the wall cavity drying out where the flood water once was. Cavity drying systems reduce repair costs while increasing job completion rate significantly. Other special drying systems include floor drying mats and concrete drying equipment.
Wet 3/4″ hardwood proves difficult to dry in a flood removal situation. UrgentDry uses floor mats that continually remove moisture from deep within the hardwood’s core to hasten the drying process. We place Low Grain Refrigerants, also known as LGR dehumidifiers, in the area of the wet tongue-and-grove hardwoods to quicken the evaporation process. UrgentDry places a moisture barrier over the wet hardwood floor while pumping dry air into it. This allows the moisture bound within the hardwoods to evaporate a much faster rate. The hardwoods are checked internally daily to ensure they are drying at a sufficient rate. Other special drying equipment for hard-to-dry building materials includes the desiccant dehumidifier.
A desiccant dehumidifier creates an incredibly dry environment to help remove moisture form concrete walls and floors. Similar to the small desiccant packets found vitamin bottles and other goods, the medium within the desiccant absorbs moisture and allows for dehumidification within basements and concrete slabs that had flood water damage.
